Projections

As humans, we try to understand ourselves, especially in relation to those around us, by looking through old photographs or objects we receive from parents, grandparents, or aunts and uncles. These photographs and objects act as windows into the lives of past generations and offer up connecting threads between their lives and ours. In this body of work, I am projecting images of the interior of my deceased grandparents’ home into various family members’ living spaces as well as in my own. In this way I am curious to see what has been passed down, behaviorally and object-wise. As I try to continue to learn more about my grandparents’ personal lives, I am also trying to understand what is real and what is imagined. In the end, coming to a point of acceptance in the blend of fiction and nonfiction that my mind creates.
